Competing Projects 2025
convocatoria abiertaUniversità IUAV di Venezia
The project aims to investigate the relationship between art and violence in Mexico, presenting data from the Biennale archive and the INEGI database, along with artistic contributions related to the theme.
The first chapter presents a single piece of data, the crime rate, through five visualizations, using redundancy to provide multiple interpretative keys. The art section is divided into two chapters: the first illustrates the contributions of Mexican artists who participated in the Biennials from 2017 to 2023, while the final chapter showcases works by four artists and a local collective, which, through an open call, gathered several contributions.
In this research, we explored how art can serve as a powerful means of restitution, resistance, and transformation, representing the content in a way that allows individuals and communities to tell their own stories, avoiding narratives that do not belong to us.
