Insights into contemporary art since 1966
Since his first published text on contemporary art in 1966, the art historian and curator Wulf Herzogenrath has been particularly committed to contemporary art. This book brings together numerous of his texts on 160 artists, which appear here in facsimile in the original layout of their first publication, as well as 212 mostly spontaneous guestbook entries – sketches, collages and photographic works – by the respective artists. Herzogenrath kept his guest book at home and in his office, but also took it with him to studios and exhibitions. Commentary texts explain the context and occasion of the artistic “guest gifts”. The result is a very personal and surprising journey through the vibrant history of art over the last sixty years across a wide range of artistic styles and media, reflecting the breadth of contemporary art.
