Black FlagXi’an Academy of Fine Arts

Black Flag is a series of posters inspired by the album “Black Flag” by Shanghai Qiutian, a Chinese post-rock band. We all know that the white flag represents surrender and defeat, while the black flag means never giving up and fighting hard against life, which is also the meaning of this album. For the first poster I captured the black flag flying in various forms, representing the gesture of life and resistance. The letters on the flag are natural shapes that I tore out by hand from paper. For the second poster I left a little white gap at the edge of the image, and on the black flag that was supposed to be black are colored letters, which also represent our resilience and freedom in the same way.
