Competing Projects 2025

The LineUniversity of Westminster

Working with the idea of lines, I created an interactive book containing a couple of poems by Mark Strand and combining the idea of the moiré effect. I chose to work with poems as they have a deeper meaning which is usually overlooked when reading it as a whole, therefore breaking the poem up into stanzas on separate pages ensures the reader of understanding the piece better. Throughout this project, I worked in black and white, along with red accents to emphasise a difference in some sections. The main element used was acetate, which was printed with black lines so when it matched onto a page it formed the full poem. Being able to line up the acetate to the page allows the user to read the stanza in the poem. This project also highlights those who have a shorter attention span or have difficulty reading as the interactivity ensures that the user engages with the text whilst also enjoying what they are reading.
