Competing Projects 2025

Spanglish University of Greenwich

In California, a region historically connected to Spanish-speaking countries, one is continually immersed in Hispanic culture, whether through the murals in San Francisco’s Mission District or the local supermercado. Through three publications—a typographic music book, a lyric companion, and ‘La Historia’—I explore Spanglish’s history, its role in music, and my upbringing. Spanglish, a fusion of Spanish and English, represents cultural hybridity by blending linguistic elements from both languages to reflect the lived experiences of bilingual communities. Drawing inspiration from Mexican Aztec typography, these works serve as educational tools and cultural guides, bridging language gaps for viewers.
