Competing Projects 2025

Venezia Turistica. Comunicazione grafica della città. 1908-1955Università IUAV di Venezia

The project offers a journey through the history of Venice’s communication as a tourist city in the early 20th century, specifically from 1908 to 1955. Through the selected sources, some key places and institutions that played a crucial role in promoting the city for tourism have been chosen, such as the Lido, the Biennale, and the Carnival, all of which contributed to the mythicized representation of the lagoon city. The same approach was applied to the selection of artifacts and related images, which helped us deepen and outline this story. Moreover, these artifacts also showed us how visual communication has changed over time, and how the choice of images, represented subjects, and typographic styles have evolved.
