Competing Projects 2025

TaqquinoUniversità IUAV di Venezia

“All paper, without exception, deserves to be reclaimed. Taqquino is an upcycling project to produce handmade notebooks made from various types of paper.”

The Taqquini are notebooks made from paper waste reclaimed from companies (printing houses, paper mills, copy shops), antique stores, and personal archives. The production process is entirely handmade, including the printing, which is done with an Olivetti Studio 45 i. Each Taqquino is a unique numbered piece, indicating the production chronology.

“Taqquino” is deliberately written with two “q”s because the design approach involves the inclusion of any type of waste/error.
The goals of the project are: to promote upcycling practices, which differ from recycling as they do not involve transforming secondary raw materials (there is limited literature on this); and to pass down artisanal knowledge.
