The postwar period was a historical era characterized by significant political upheaval, and graphic design, which was not an incidental subject external to the dynamics of history, played a leading role in political communication. We are all familiar with the works of Lica and Albe Steiner, Michele Spera, Ettore Vitale, and many others, who shaped the world of political graphic design on a large scale in Italy, often finding in the major cities the ideal stage for their work. However, despite being populous and rich in stimuli, large urban centers did not represent the entirety of the country: there were indeed constellations of small villages and towns that made up the provinces. What do we know about political communication in these places? From this question arises Segni Rurali, an atlas that examines the Imola District area (BO) and tells the story of local left-wing political graphic design and the archival heritage of Imola through images and infographics.
