Oltredato - La soggettività nascosta della BiennaleUniversità IUAV di Venezia

Sex, age, and origin of the artists in the Biennale exhibitions are classificatory data that reduce them to mere numbers. Behind these figures lies a world of subjectivity, where each artist’s themes become variables. The stereotype itself becomes a tool to break it down, confirming that subjectivity and objectivity coexist inseparably. The research aims to tell the themes addressed by artists in various editions of the Biennale in order to reconstruct a social overview of the first two decades of the 2000s. The subjectivity of the artist is not forgotten; rather, it is emphasized, as it deserves not to be dissolved in the objectivity of statistical analyses.
Thus, the title “Oltredato” (“Beyond the Data”) was chosen, to discover the vastness of meanings hidden behind a number.
The paper craft work visually translates this concept through perforated pages that reveal what is behind, beyond the data and beyond the page.
