Competing Projects 2025
Futuri passati. I linguaggi della fantascienza nell'editoria tra est e ovest dal 1930 al 1980.Università IUAV di Venezia
The futures created by human imagination reflect the characteristics of the present time, serving as a mirror for the fears, hopes, and expectations of society. In the world of graphic design, how have these futures been visualized? What languages have been used? Has the science fiction genre been able to develop an identity and autonomy in the field of visual communication over time? Are there geographical differences in the way science fiction is represented?
These are the questions posed to the history of graphic design that the project aims to answer through a historical investigation focusing on the publishing landscape from 1930 to 1980. The goal is to compare Soviet science fiction publishing with its Western counterpart, in order to identify similarities and differences in the definition of graphic languages, as well as to observe the influence of the cultural landscape on editorial production.
