Competing Projects 2025

Biennale ParolaUniversità IUAV di Venezia

Biennale Parola is a project by Tommaso Antonelli, Pasquale de Sario, and Giulia Gatta that explores the historical archive of the Venice Biennale of Art, investigating the relationship between numerical and quantum data and artistic expressions, which are immaterial and subjective.

The project uses the word, with its wealth of meanings and signifiers, challenges and opportunities, to illustrate this complex process of analysis. The design choices follow a philosophical and conceptual approach, recreating the dialectical relationship between content and form, inherent in language and writing. The first volume examines the meanings and content of the words used in the Biennale Art exhibitions, while the second analyzes the form of the titles of the editions. The data is visualized through glyphs and typographic compositions, with the typewriter as the primary tool, making the inaccuracies a critical instrument for expressing the statistical uncertainty of the project.
