Competing Projects 2025
TaboobTina De Souter Bookdesign
‘Taboob’ is a concept by photographer Noortje Palmers and Jasper Declercq. With the project, they aimed to test how far Instagram’s censorship of women’s breasts extends. What defines a breast according to the algorithm? Does it have to be round and white? Can it be hairy? Can it have seven nipples, or even none at all? Jasper and Noortje photographed 75 breasts, they posted these on the Instagram page @taboobofficial. The concept turned out to be a hot topic, as within a few days, the number of followers grew to tens of thousands. Ultimately, Instagram blocked the page. Twice, even.
We translated this concept into a book with strong, conceptual material choices. The book opens with a manifesto on censorship, printed on Symbol Tatami. The images inside are printed on Arena Smooth and the censored images are accompanied by a tracing paper (Golden Star K). The book was bound with an open spine binding with pink thread. The wrap around the cover censors everything except the nipple.
