All Stars Stand Close In Summer AirTina De Souter Bookdesign
This personal photographybook of Stephanie O’Connor (currently in Berlin) documents returning home to Aotearoa, New Zealand for the first time in five years. The colours blur a mélange of family, nature, and old haunts where things no longer look or feel the same. There is an uncanny newness to the familiar, a place haloed and awash with ochres and greens. The poems were written by Frances Libeau, based in Aotearoa, creating a vital tether to the birthplace of the images. The poetry responds to the photographs as they echo the slippery mutability of the image, seeing, and remembrance.
Only printed in a very limited edition of 80 copies, all bound by hand by Tina De Souter & Rubeyda Yilmaz in a unique, binding method they call ‘back-to back saddle stitch’. The inside pages of the book are printed on Symbol Tatami White and the cover on Sirio Color Rough Flamingo paper. A huge bright-blue foilstamp adorns the cover to set the dreamy mood for this artbook.
