Joža Uprka 1861 - 1940The Hodonín Gallery of Fine Arts
For many years the gallery has been processing the life and work of Joža Uprka, one of the most important Moravian artists of the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries and the first chairman of the Association of Moravian Artists, whose traditions the gallery continues. In 2011, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the artist’s birth, the gallery prepared a large retrospective exhibition, for which a comprehensive publication was published. The author of the expert art-historical text was PhDr. Jaroslav Kačer, Director Emeritus of the Moravian Gallery in Brno. The first edition of the publication, including a reprint, was dismantled after a number of years, and since the public has shown a constant interest in the work of Joža Uprka, we decided to republish the monograph and supplement it with an inventory of the painter’s work, which was undertaken together with Mr Kačer by PhDr. Ilona Tunklová.
