Sociotype Journal Issue 3 – HomeSociotype
Sociotype Journal is the type specimen for designers who like to read. We believe type should start conversations and spread ideas, so rather than make specimens with the usual dummy copy, we founded the Journal as a platform for thoughts on culture and society.
Published as an annual magazine, each issue explores a theme inspired by and set in a single type family by Sociotype. Issue 3, titled ‘Home’, is typeset in all 42 styles of our utilitarian grotesk superfamily, Onsite.
Inside we consider how power (or the lack of it) can change the concept and reality of ‘home’, with essays in two chapters: Masterplan and DIY. The former with articles on utopian masterplanning, replica cities and hostile architecture; the latter on spite architecture, secret rooms, and McMansions.
Printed on four different paper stocks and with experimental use of neon inks in graphic and photographic content throughout, reading the Journal is both a highly tactile and visual experience.
