Alessandro Bergamini The Ice WayIkos | architettura della comunicazione

The book The Ice Way collects Alessandro Bergamini’s incredible experience in the Ladakh territory of the Indian Himalayas.
The screen-printed opaline slipcase looks like a semi-transparent block of ice, creating an evocative overlap between typography and photography. The rough-cut hardback cover emphasises the physicality of the volume, completely smooth and angular, like the cold felt by the participants during the journey. The paper has a dotted texture, reminiscent of many small snowflakes. The exposed binding allows the volume to be opened 180° to enjoy the images in their entirety.
The graphic layout is designed to lead the reader to change perspective along the way. After the visual story of the 30 photographs, with a change of paper the book becomes a travel diary in which to crystallise the sensations of those interminable days and note down the technical details of the expedition.
