Social Determinism through The City Of God ECAL - École cantonale d'art de Lausanne

Social Determinism through The City Of God is a documentary research on the social constraints that are exercised in disadvantaged environments. Starting from the film The City Of God (Fernando Meirelles, Katia Lund, 2003), this book merges 5 key passages through extracts from the dialogues and images of the surrounding of a favela near Rio de Janeiro, captured on Google Street-View. Offering an objective vision of the situation within the favela, this study applies to all social contexts, demonstrating that everyone, through their society, is a prisoner of their own destiny.

The jacket/posters include all the street names of the favela. Composing a shape, it represents an aerial view of a closed space, from which one cannot escape.
