In my calendar design this year, I depicted a more figurative image of the dragon’s head. Instead, I took an abstract approach to the shape of the dragon’s body: just a thick line with a few strokes of a triangular bulging spine and a triangular tail. Over the course of 12 months, the direction of the dragon’s head changes and the body dances differently, which, when viewed together, makes it look like a picture of a Chinese New Year dragon dance. In the choice of colors, I abandoned the traditional red and purple and went for a calmer green and blue, trying not to drown in a sea of red. Another innovation is the function of the calendar itself: this year’s calendar has only a few numbers in two colors for each month, the blue numbers represent Saturdays, and the green represent Sundays, which means that I designed the calendar to have only pleasant weekends.
