BODYBUILDERS 01Alien
Bodybuilders is a photographic and video project made by Alien investigating themes of identity, extravaganza and new means of self-expression by documenting 30 of the most interesting performers in the UK.
In a crossroads between visual and performing arts, gender studies, activism and critical reflection, the project contributes to representation and positive affirmation, witnessing alternative ways of expressing oneself.
Bodies are built, distorted and transformed, cis women, trans and non-binary people are included as a reflection on binarism and systemic male domination.
Helen Hester, co-author of The Xenofeminist Manifesto and Inferno’s London queer night founder Lewis G. Burton are the two writers for the introductory texts.
