Competing Projects 2025
Ai margini dell'Archivio Università IUAV di Venezia
The project explores the Venice Biennale of Art through the lens of statistics and contemporary art. Following Karl Popper’s philosophy, Ai margini dell’archivio (At the Margins of the Archive) leverages errors and hypotheses to analyze the criteria of inclusion and exclusion that influence the selection of works and participating countries.
The goal is to investigate whether the Biennale reflects the complexity of art and the contemporary world, giving space to what often remains on the margins of the Archive. The project adopts an ironic approach, combining statistical rigor with artistic sensitivity, and is divided into two booklets: an A6 format, which condenses all the information about the International Exhibition, and an A5 format dedicated to national participations, which is more spacious. With this methodology, statistical imprecision becomes a tool to uncover hidden details and offer a more nuanced view of the event. The project was developed by Gaia Giraudo, Claudia Mandara, and Letizia Monti.
