Competing Projects 2025

British Museum Annual Review 2023/24British Museum

Amid challenges and change at the Museum, there was a strong internal desire to emphasise our successes, both across the UK and globally. With extensive activities happening nationwide with partners, we decided to use the cover to highlight our national reach, showing that our work extends far beyond Bloomsbury in London.

Creating a sensory experience was a key priority in material selection. The die-cut cover maps partner locations across the UK using a contrasting, brightly coloured underlying sheet and a transparent gloss map of the UK. Multiple stocks separate content, with the main section bookended by paper of different colours, weights and the use of single colour printing. Thread-sewn binding with a yellow thread complements the yellow stock — visually striking yet practical, providing durability. The title is foiled but discreet, allowing the abstract map to draw the reader’s eye.
