The exhibition and its catalogue Friends in Love and War — In Praise of the Best Enemies, are a collaboration between the Ikon art centre and macLYON. The exhibition presents a selection of works from the collections of the British Council and the Musée d’art contemporain de Lyon around the theme of friendship. Founded on trust and mutual affection, friendship is one of the most precious relationships that exists. With friends, we share life experiences, broaden our horizons and build common futures. Presented successively in Lyon and then Birmingham, two twinned cities, the exhibition also focuses on diplomatic friendships and the way in which regional capitals and cultural institutions can create new ways of doing things, particularly in a post-Brexit context. The selection of works in the exhibition and the book includes various forms: painting, drawing, photography, engraving, textile, film, sculpture, installation, etc.
