The deluxe playing card project ‘The Secret of the Sea’ came about as a follow-up to our first project, ‘The Elves Deck’ launched on Kickstart in November 2022. Having then been nominated in the Deck of The Year 2023 competition, it gave us a lot of momentum and we immediately started working on the deck presented here, The Secret of the Sea, which was produced during 2024 after being funded, again on Kickstart. With the first project, we created a fantasy world populated by elves and humans, and began to describe it, talking about the characters that inhabit it. With the ‘Secret of the Sea’ project, we continued our story, expanding the boundaries to the sea and the coasts and populating our world with pirates (spades and clubs) and sailors (hearts and diamonds). We wrote detailed stories about the various characters presented (jacks, ladies, kings, jollies and aces) and with a lot of passion we did everything to have a product of the highest quality, both in terms of story and technical realisation. Thanks to the fabulous Fedrigoni papers, the application of a very fine hot foil was easy, having designed a packaging that was really challenging to print and with a lot of detail. The result was exceptional, and although it gave our trusted printer, Boschiero & Newton of Jesolo, a hard time, we are delighted with the end result.
