What constitutes its historiography? And how is it transmitted? What are the resources that allow to constitute its historiography? What is the role of designers themselves in what makes history? We wanted to raise these questions in this twenty-ninth edition of Graphisme en France.
We invited Sara De Bondt and Catherine Guiral, graphic designers, teachers and researchers, and Alice Twemlow, professor, researcher, and author, to a conversation that took place at the Cnap the transcription of which constitutes a unique proposition in this publication. This issue of Graphisme en France is illustrated by a selection of books that generate a dialogue out of their reflection on the history of graphic design, combined with larger bibliographical resources. The discussion creates a landscape in which their interrogations, their observations, and their practices lay the groundwork for one or several histories of graphic design.
